FOM accepts donations all year round, but we only ask our community twice per year: Fall Pledge Drive, where we ask our families to donate what they can. And Marchathon, a Spring event where our students can reach out to their relatives, friends, and greater community circles to sponsor them to run laps through Michel's campus.
What We Fund...
-
Art Class, Music Class, and our Social Emotional Toolbox Program
Funding supports Art class twice a week with Ms. Ilene, Music with Mr. White, Toolbox with Ms. Jessica, and supplies for all their project needs. At Michel, we also learn and practice 12 Tools; strategies that help each of us calm down, think more clearly, and communicate effectively with those around us.
-
EnrichLA Community Garden Class, and Campus Beautification
School gardens improve air quality, increase exposure to the natural world, encourage environmental stewardship, and positively impact health and eating habits. FOM furthers our message of sustainability through our campus beautification program, with family volunteers keeping our gardens and our campus looking fresh.
-
Teaching Assistants, School Coordinator, and Teacher Supplies
What would a school be without the backbone of any education system; our talented teachers and staff! Friends of Micheltorena fully funds four Teaching Assistants, as well as partially funding our School Coordinator. Funding provides the extra supplies teachers need for the school year, and ensures our students have the staff support they need in their classrooms each day.
-
Amity International Intern Program
Amity Interns provide support for our Dual Language Program, helping to increase the student-teacher ratio and reinforce language learning, while sharing their cultures with their host families and the school community. You'll see our interns helping with homework and art projects, reading groups, leading games at recess, and so much more!
-
All School Field Trip Transportation, and Annual CIMI Catalina Camp
Field trips provide a safe and supportive environment for children to step out of their comfort zones and become the best version of themselves. Our annual 5th grade camp week with CIMI and Guided Discoveries, fundraised by our 5th grade families, lets students take on new challenges, allowing them to grow in a way that only camp can do.
